Investing in prevention, supporting protection: OKTA continues its fire safety initiative for second consecutive year
In anticipation of the summer season and the increased risk of open air fires, OKTA this year continues with its activities to support the institutions responsible for protection and rescue and to raise public awareness of the need for greater prevention.
As part of its annual activities, the company provided a donation of specialized protective equipment for pilots operating the Air Tractor firefighting aircraft of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DZS)—advanced gear, consisting of protective suits, jackets, gloves and boots, designed to enhance pilot safety and resilience during high-risk firefighting missions. In parallel with the donation, OKTA is implementing the campaign for prevention of open air fires for the second year in a row under the slogan "Watch what you do! It only takes a spark!", which is being implemented in partnership and with the support of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue and the PE "National Forests". The campaign aims to encourage the public to behave responsibly in nature and to point out the risks of carelessness, which are often the cause of fires with serious consequences for the environment, forest resources and the safety of citizens.
“As a company that continuously invests in safety, environmental protection and community support, we believe that prevention is the most effective way to reduce fire risks. With this donation, we want to make a specific contribution to strengthening the capacities of institutions that care for the safety of citizens and the protection of natural resources on a daily basis. At the same time, through the campaign, we continue to send the message that each of us has a responsibility and role in preventing fires,” said OKTA CEO Dimitrios Paschos.
The Directorate for Protection and Rescue is one of the key institutions in the system for dealing with open air fires and, through its aviation capacities, plays a significant role in early intervention and limiting fires in difficult-to-access terrain.
"The support of socially responsible companies such as OKTA plays a vital role in strengthening the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue. Investments in the safety and working conditions of our personnel directly enhance our ability to respond to emergencies and protect lives, our communities and natural resources. Equally important, however, is the recognition that the most effective way to combat wildfires is to prevent them before they occur. In this regard, we highly commend and support the public awareness campaign, which addresses the root causes of fires and contributes to building a stronger culture of responsibility, preparedness, and prevention across society”, said Stojance Angelov, Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue.
In recent years, OKTA has continuously invested in strengthening the country’s fire prevention and response capabilities—from supporting early fire detection and equipping frontline responders, to establishing the nation’s first training center for fire protection from petroleum derivatives. These initiatives reflect a long-term commitment to building safer, more resilient communities. Protecting our forests and natural resources is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration, preparedness, and sustained action. By working together—institutions, businesses, and citizens alike—we can create lasting impact, reduce risks, and ensure a safer and greener future for generations to come.
Through partnership and shared responsibility, we can make a meaningful difference today and preserve our environment for tomorrow.
